About Me
Rachel is a cook and aspiring food writer. She was inspired a decade ago to pick up the frying pan by chefs on the Food Network and has never looked back.
She enjoys every aspect of cooking from conceptualizing a dish after being inspired by market ingredients to serving old favourites to her loved ones. She studies classic and modernist cookbooks and creates her own recipes.
After being diagnosed with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis in 2011, she researched how a change in diet could drastically improve her health. She is currently taking medication for her condition as well as adhering to a strict grain and GMO free diet. Her recipes are both health conscious and flavourful. She believes that there is no substitute for flavour and is constantly reinventing old favourite recipes into new grain-free classics.
When she’s not cooking Rachel works as a professional wedding and lifestyle photographer.
She is also a videographer and filmmaker and is the co-founder of VIO Productions. Her work has screened at film festivals domestically and abroad and has won her awards in writing and producing.
She is also a trained ballet dancer and holds the ARAD. Her dance training has taken her across Canada and the United States to attend workshops led by company members and choreographers from New York City Ballet, Boston Ballet, National Ballet of Canada, Nederlands Dans Theater, Alberta Ballet, Ballet BC, and Batsheva Dance Company.
She is also a certified yoga instructor.
Rachel spends her spare time volunteering for a variety of festivals across North America including Film, Music, and Food festivals.
She lives in Edmonton Alberta with her cat Abbey.
